The 18th Annual RSVP ArtFest is now on exhibit! Paintings, sculptures, photographs and more are showcased throughout display cases on the first and third floors at Laramie County Library. Haven’t heard of RSVP? It’s the Retired, Senior and Volunteer Program, which helps to promote and encourage art among Cheyennites aged 50+.

On some of the pieces, you’ll notice a ribbon or note—these pieces have won awards this year. Artist Ron McIntosh chose the painting and sculpture award winners, and Photographer and University of Wyoming instructor Bailey Russel chose the photography award winners.

Most of the pieces displayed are for sale; take the opportunity to support local artisans and complete your holiday shopping. There are a few pieces that have already been spoken for. Call RSVP at 307-635-2435 for more information or to make your purchase.

This exhibit wouldn’t have been possible without the help of several RSVP volunteers, along with their outreach coordinator Peggy Hutchings. They receive the art from participating artists who must fill out forms with necessary information for artwork labels, then haul the art into the library to hang it according to artistic medium and artist.

Occasionally, a piece or two will require an installation challenge for library staff, and this year we had one of those! The library’s glass display case shelves aren’t designed to hold 80lb. pieces of wood that have been carved into a beautiful sculpture (see the display cases in the gallery for these pieces). The artist and library staff used some muscle and creative problem solving to find a suitable option to exhibit the piece!
