Latino Americans: 500 Years of History at Your Library

CaptureDid you know that prior to 1960, if your family was of Hispanic origins, you were not allowed to live in housing north of Pershing? Or that your grandfather might have been passed up for certain jobs due to his race? In Laramie County, 17.4 percent of the population is of Hispanic origin. (http://www.census.gov/quickfacts/table/PST045215/00).

Latino Americans: 500 Years of History is a nationwide public programming initiative that supports the exploration of the varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped shape the United States over the last five centuries and who have become, with more than 50 million people, the country’s largest minority group. It is based on the PBS film series.

We’re inviting you to celebrate this rich culture with the Laramie County Library and our local partners by attending programming spread throughout the 6 weeks of this initiative. From tamale-making workshops, to PBS documentaries and monitored discussions, we’ll have something for everyone Monday, April 25 – Monday, June 6, 2016.
