Crossroads: Movie and Discussion (RSVP Required)

Enjoy a movie recommended by the Smithsonian’s Crossroads: Change in Rural America exhibit film list. The Magic of Ordinary Days (rated PG) is set in 1944 and tells the story of an educated, young woman who becomes pregnant out of wedlock. She is pressured into an arranged marriage with a lonely Colorado farmer who utilizes the work of Japanese-Americans from a nearby internment camp. The film explores WWII-era America and the hardships, prejudice, and racism faced by Japanese-Americans. Immediately following, we will discuss the film and its major themes and impacts.
