An Afternoon of Celtic Music at the Library

Step into the enchanting world of Celtic music as Laramie County Library welcomes the acclaimed duo Gadbaw & Krimmel for a free concert in the library’s Performance Park. Known for their captivating arrangements and original compositions, Beth Gadbaw and Margot Krimmel blend Irish and American folk traditions with artistry, energy, and warmth.

With harp as the foundation and voice as the guide, their music moves seamlessly between lively rhythms and reflective ballads. Even if you are new to Celtic music, you’ll find their performance accessible and engaging. Their songs are spirited and soothing at once—perfect for an afternoon of connection and reflection. You will find something to love, whether it’s the timeless resonance of the harp, the emotion carried in the vocals, or the stories that give each piece its depth.

Bring a chair or blanket and settle in under the open sky for a beautiful experience. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the Cottonwood Room so the music can continue in comfort.

Thanks to the incredible talent in our community, you can now choose from four brand-new library card designs created by the winners of our First Annual Library Card Art Contest.

These cards are more than just eye-catching—they’re your connection to learning, creativity, and community. Whether you’re exploring a new author, diving into local history, or connecting with others at a class or event, your card is the key to it all.

More than books. More than a building. Your library card opens the door to:

  • Digital tools like eBooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines on Libby
  • Creative spaces for 3D printing, photography, and audio recording
  • Community experiences including book clubs, free programs, and cultural events
  • Practical resources like mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, self-measured blood pressure kits, and home radon monitors

All month long, we’ll be highlighting just a few of the endless possibilities available with your card. You might be surprised by everything you can do—from planting a garden with seeds from our Seed Library to producing a podcast in our recording studio.

Whether you’re signing up for the first time or returning after some time away, September is the perfect moment to connect—or reconnect—with everything the library has to offer. Your card doesn’t just check out books, it checks you into your community.

Starting Tuesday, September 2, 2025, sign up for a new library card or refresh yours with one of our winning designs at any branch in Cheyenne, Burns, Pine Bluffs, or on the Bookmobile. Quilts Through the Ages: A Community Showcase in Burns & Pine Bluffs

Whether passed down through generations or newly stitched with care, quilts have long told stories of creativity, survival, and community. Join us for a special program that brings those stories to life.

On Tuesday, August 26, the library is proud to welcome Peg Maunier of the SCB County Quilting Group for “Quilts: A History!” This engaging presentation explores the evolution of quilting, from early pioneer practices to modern-day artistry and features a stunning display of both antique and contemporary quilts.

Catch the program at either location:

  • Burns Branch: 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
  • Pine Bluffs Branch: 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

This event is perfect for teens and adults who are curious about textile history, looking to connect with local makers, or simply want to admire beautiful craftsmanship up close.

In addition to Peg’s presentation, each branch will feature a display of local quilts on exhibit from August 26 through August 30. Even if you can’t make the event, stop by during the week to enjoy a self-guided quilt showcase.

Programs like this one help us celebrate the richness of local tradition, the stories woven into everyday objects, and the creativity that connects generations. We hope to see you there!

A Deliciously Fun Way to Discover New Books!

Looking for a new favorite book? Our upcoming K–2 Book Tasting is the perfect chance for young readers to sample something new — and maybe even fall in love with a story they didn’t expect!

On Saturday, August 23 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., we’re turning the Early Literacy Center into the Story Stop Café, where children in grades K–2 can “taste test” a curated selection of books, enjoy snacks, and discover a new genre or series to get excited about.

This month’s theme is outdoor adventures, so expect stories that explore the wild, wander through forests, and go on big (and small!) explorations in nature. Whether your child already loves to read or is just getting started, this is a fun, low-pressure way to try something new — and meet other young book lovers!

We believe finding the right book at the right time can spark a lifelong love of reading, and events like this one are a great way to support that journey. Plus, it’s just plain fun.

Space is limited, so swing by the Early Literacy Center a few minutes early to grab your spot. We’ll take care of the books and snacks — all your young reader needs to bring is their curiosity!
