First Steps Program
Early literacy begins at home.
First Steps is a free early literacy program from Laramie County Library System, made possible through the generosity of donors to the Laramie County Library Foundation. The program helps families create strong early learning environments through stories, play, and connection—so children are ready to read by the time they start school.
First Steps is open to children from birth to age 3, or ages 3–5 on an IEP or with other special needs, and their parent(s) or caregiver(s). Each week, an early literacy specialist visits your home for one hour of guided, play-based learning that supports your child’s language and literacy development.
What to Expect
- Interactive story time with crafts, puppets, and songs
- Engaging activities that build early learning skills
- Movement, music, and creative play
- A free book for your child to keep each visit
Each session also includes ideas and guidance to help parents and caregivers support learning between visits.
