A Day of Bluegrass Guitar with Jim Hurst

Bluegrass fans, guitar lovers, and music-curious community members are invited to spend an entire day immersed in the sound and story of Bluegrass guitar with award-winning musician Jim Hurst on Saturday, January 10, 2026. In partnership with the Cheyenne Guitar Society, the Laramie County Library System is proud to host both an afternoon workshop and an evening concert, offering two unique ways to experience Hurst’s artistry.

The day begins at 2:00 pm with The History of Bluegrass Guitar: From Rhythm to Lead, an engaging, in-person workshop that explores how the guitar evolved within Bluegrass music. Jim Hurst guides attendees through the instrument’s journey—from its early role as a rhythm backbone to its rise as a powerful lead voice—highlighting influential players, stylistic innovations, and essential techniques along the way. Whether you play guitar, love Bluegrass music, or simply enjoy learning about American musical traditions, this session blends history, performance, and storytelling into an accessible and enriching experience.

Later that evening, from 5:00–7:00 pm, Jim Hurst takes the stage for a live concert showcasing the music behind the history. A Pinecastle recording artist and multiple-time International Bluegrass Music Association Guitar Player of the Year, Hurst is known for his masterful picking, soulful vocals, and heartfelt storytelling. His performances move seamlessly between Bluegrass, Americana, folk, and gospel, featuring both original songs and beloved classics in an intimate concert setting.

Attending both events offers a rare opportunity to connect the dots between the history of Bluegrass guitar and its living, breathing sound today. Join us for one, or make a day of it and experience both on Saturday, January 10, 2026, for a celebration of music, craft, and community.
