Get Ready to Unearth a Story™ During the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge System

You may have spotted a few dinosaurs roaming around the library lately, digging into good books and exploring the stacks ahead of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
Beginning June 1, readers of all ages are invited to Unearth a Story™ with the Laramie County Library System (LCLS) during the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge. Inspired by dinosaurs, fossils, exploration, and hidden worlds, this year’s theme celebrates the excitement of discovery and the stories waiting to be uncovered in the library and beyond.
Whether you’re 5 or 95, there’s a story waiting for you this summer.
From adventure stories and graphic novels to audiobooks, history, science, and family read-alouds, the Summer Reading Challenge encourages readers of all ages to stay curious, explore new interests, and make reading a part of their summer routine.
Registration opens June 1
The Summer Reading Challenge runs June 1 through August 15, creating a summer filled with reading, exploration, and prizes.
You can register online through Beanstack or visit any LCLS location to sign up and pick up a paper reading log.
Read for at least 20 minutes each day and track your progress throughout the summer. Any reading counts, including books, magazines, audiobooks, comics and graphic novels, and reading aloud with someone. You can also earn prizes as you reach reading milestones along the way.
Summer reading plays an important role in helping students maintain literacy skills while school is out. Regular reading throughout the summer can help reduce the “summer slide,” the learning loss that can happen when reading routines pause during summer break. At the same time, the Summer Reading Challenge is designed to make reading fun, rewarding, and accessible for readers of all ages.
There’s even more to discover throughout the summer as LCLS hosts programs, performances, STEM activities, movies, and a multitude of other Summer Reading Challenge themed events. From hands-on discovery programs to creative activities and family events, there will be opportunities all summer long for readers and explorers of all ages to participate.
Visit the online events calendar to find upcoming Summer Reading Challenge events and programs.
Registration opens June 1. Get ready to Unearth a Story™ and roar into reading this summer.
