Library Card Sign-Up Month May Be Over, but a Library Card Hits All the Right Notes All Year

September may be over, but there’s no reason to put your library card on the shelf.
We spent the month sharing some of the many things you can do with a library card, from learning something new and exploring a favorite hobby to discovering resources you may not have known were available.
And October doesn’t change any of that.
The new card designs are still here. The resources we shared are still available. And if you didn’t get around to signing up for a library card in September, you didn’t miss your chance.
Designed by Our Community
One of our favorite parts of Library Card Sign-Up Month started long before September. This year’s Library Card Art Contest brought in hundreds of submissions from artists across our community, followed by hundreds of votes to choose the designs that would become our newest library cards.
On September 1, the winning artwork from Leo, Bridger, Ashley, and Breanna officially made its debut on library cards. Throughout the month, we also had the chance to showcase every piece of artwork submitted to the contest on the first floor of the Cheyenne Library.
Thank you to every artist who shared their work, everyone who voted, and everyone who chose one of the new designs for their own library card. And if you haven’t picked up your favorite yet, there’s still plenty of time. This year’s designs will remain available through August 2027.

Of course, choosing your favorite design is only the beginning. Once that card is in your wallet, there’s plenty you can do with it.
You can connect with online tutoring, borrow equipment for your next project, download an audiobook, explore Wyoming with a State Parks pass, research something you’ve always wondered about, or simply find your next great read. And that’s just the beginning.
Your Library Card Is Here All Year
Library Card Sign-Up Month may be over, but there’s no deadline to get a library card. Library cards are free for Laramie County residents of all ages, and you can get started anytime.
Sign up online to start the process. Then, visit a library location with a photo ID to finish your registration and receive your library card. Anyone under 18 will need a parent or guardian with them. Already have a library card? There’s plenty to keep exploring. Your card does not need to be renewed and will remain active as long as it is used at least once every five years. And if one of this year’s community-designed cards caught your eye, you can switch to a new design at no cost.
Library Card Sign-Up Month may officially be over, but we think every month is a good month to sign up for a library card.
So, if September got away from you, no worries. You didn’t miss your chance. You can get your free card whenever you’re ready.
