Small Towns, Big Stories: Celebrate the 2026 Booklovers Bash
What began in the parking lot of the former library at 2800 Central Avenue in Cheyenne has grown into one of our community’s most highly anticipated annual events, welcoming internationally renowned authors and sold-out crowds of 450 library supporters.
The Laramie County Library Foundation’s 2026 Booklovers Bash continues that tradition on Friday, October 16, at Little America in Cheyenne. Inspired by this year’s theme, Small Towns, Big Stories, the evening will celebrate the powerful stories that emerge from close-knit communities and resonate for generations.
This year’s featured guest is acclaimed author Patrick Ryan, whose sweeping novel, Buckeye, has captivated readers and critics across the country. Since its publication in 2025, Buckeye has earned extraordinary national recognition. The novel became a New York Times bestseller, a Read With Jenna selection, a Barnes & Noble National Book Club pick, and an Indie Next pick. Amazon’s editors named it the No. 1 Best Book of 2025, praising its compelling multigenerational storytelling.
Set in the fictional small town of Bonhomie, Ohio, Buckeye follows two families whose lives become intertwined by a secret with consequences that reverberate across generations. Moving from World War II through the latter decades of the 20th century, the novel explores love, family, sacrifice, forgiveness, and the choices that shape our lives. Ryan spent eight years developing its characters and their story, creating a richly layered novel filled with humor, heartbreak, and humanity.
Ryan is also the author of the short-story collections The Dream Life of Astronauts and Send Me, as well as three novels for young adults. His work is known for its vivid characters, emotional depth, and ability to illuminate the extraordinary moments found within seemingly ordinary lives.
More than a memorable literary evening, the Booklovers Bash supports the Laramie County Library Foundation’s investment in the programs, resources, and services that enrich lives throughout our community. Guests will enjoy a meal, connect with fellow library patrons, support their library system, and hear directly from one of today’s most celebrated authors.
The evening begins with a reception at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and the always-popular Dessert Dash at 6:15 p.m. Ryan will take the stage at 7:45 p.m. to share insights into his writing and the unforgettable story behind Buckeye.
