The Mobile Library Has Arrived

We’re excited to share that Laramie County Library System’s new mobile library has officially arrived.
This moment has been years in the making. Made possible through Sixth Penny Tax funding, the mobile library represents a continued investment in expanding access to library services across Laramie County. It also reflects an important focus of our strategic plan: expanding outreach, marketing, and access so more people can connect with the library in ways that fit their lives.
What Happens Next
While the vehicle is here, there is still important work to be done before it begins service.
Over the coming weeks, our team will be preparing the mobile library for the road. This includes training drivers, moving and organizing the collection, setting up technology, and making sure everything is ready to provide a consistent and reliable experience for the community.
Our goal is to begin mobile library service in June.
A New Chapter of Mobile Service
For nearly 20 years, the bookmobile has been a familiar and valued part of Laramie County. As that vehicle reached the end of its service life, this new mobile library was designed to ensure we can continue providing reliable service while expanding what mobile library access can look like moving forward.
You may notice we’re now using the term mobile library instead of bookmobile. That change reflects how the service has evolved. While books remain at the core, this is a library on wheels, offering access to technology, Wi-Fi, and opportunities for programming and engagement alongside materials and staff support.
The mobile library functions as a branch of Laramie County Library System, bringing services directly into neighborhoods, schools, and community spaces. It is one of the most visible ways we are putting our strategic plan into action by extending our reach, reducing barriers, and creating more opportunities for connection across the county.
Inside, the space is comparable to the previous vehicle, with improvements that make it more efficient to operate and more flexible in how services are delivered now and in the future.
Looking Ahead
In May, the mobile library will begin visiting schools to introduce students to the new vehicle and build excitement for the Summer Reading Challenge.
Community stops will begin in early June, with the full summer schedule rolling out shortly after.
To celebrate, we invite the community to join us for a Mobile Library Launch Party on June 6. This will be a fun, family-friendly opportunity to explore the new mobile library, meet staff, and experience this new service firsthand. More details will be shared soon.
This summer, the mobile library will expand its reach with new and returning stops across Laramie County, including additional locations, community partnerships, and pop-up visits.
Stay tuned for the announcement of our summer mobile library schedule, which will include new stops and expanded service across Laramie County.
