Finding ways to connect with your child while supporting their reading skills can make a lasting difference. On Tuesday, February 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, families are invited to gather at the Pine Bluffs Branch Library for the kickoff of the Impossible Creatures Read-Together Challenge. This eight-week reading adventure is designed for youth ages 9 to 14 and the adults in their lives.

This engaging kickoff event is presented in collaboration with Our Book Bench and will feature Lisa and David Heinert, who will introduce families to Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell. Parents and children will explore the imaginative world of the book together through a guided discussion, time for questions, and adventure-inspired activities that help bring the story to life.

At the kickoff event, each participating family will receive a copy of Impossible Creatures to keep, making it easy to begin reading right away. Families who are unable to attend the kickoff or who would like an additional copy can also check out the book from any Laramie County Library System branch or the bookmobile. To help families track their progress, paper reading logs will be handed out at the kickoff event.

While the February 3 kickoff is a great way to get started, participants are welcome to join the challenge at any time. Families can follow along throughout the eight weeks by tuning in to the Our Book Bench podcast, where Lisa and David Heinert continue the conversation and encourage readers as they make their way through the book.

The reading journey will wrap up with a completion celebration on March 31, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, held at the Pine Bluffs Branch Library. This final event gives families a chance to celebrate finishing the book, reflect on the experience, and connect with others who took part in the challenge.

Because space for the kickoff event is limited, registration is required. Families are encouraged to register online to reserve their spot and take part in this shared reading experience that blends literacy, imagination, and quality family time at the Pine Bluffs Branch Library.
