Dinner and a Movie: Hidden Figures
Tuesday, June 6
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in United States history. The movie is based on the unbelievable, true life stories of three of these women, known as “human computers.” We’ll follow them as they quickly rise within the ranks of NASA, specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and guaranteeing his safe return. Despite starting their careers in segregation-era America, and facing discrimination at home, school, and work, these women overcame these challenges and cemented themselves as true American heroes. Rated PG. (Adults; Pine Bluffs Branch Library)

History of the Pine Bluffs Branch Library
The first branch library of Laramie County Library System opened March 15, 1923 in Pine Bluffs with 1,199 books. In the spring of 1926, the town built a new community house with a front room dedicated to the library. Ten years later, a branch was established north of Pine Bluffs in Albin to reach residents who lived between the two cities. The Pine Bluffs branch moved to the town hall in 1953, where it remained for 15 years. In 1968, the Albin branch closed and the following year, the Pine Bluffs branch moved to a larger storefront to better accommodate the community and other rural towns.
The Pine Bluffs branch serves a population of nearly 1,200, with access provided to Laramie County School District #2 and the surround rural areas in the county. It is located next to the town police department, down the street from the newspaper and across from Farmers State Bank.
