In his new role, Mike will oversee the management of software, telecommunications, and hardware throughout all three library facilities. He will also ensure that the library provides patrons and employees with access to cutting-edge technology while protecting the organization by adhering to the latest cybersecurity recommendations and innovations.
Mike began working at Laramie County Library System in 2007 as a part-time Computer Center Assistant. He moved into the Information Technology Services division later that year as a Repair Specialist. Mike is looking forward to his new role at the library and is focused on impacting the library’s security and accessibility. “I’d like to try to innovate and explore options to provide access to the internet and technology as much as we can,” he answered when asked about the library’s biggest IT challenges. “I want to lead our already-fantastic IT division to a position where we are able to rapidly innovate and adapt to be able to meet our technology challenges and be a source of support and information for our employees and library patrons.”
He also addressed the challenges of keeping pace with ever-changing security threats stating, “with all the outside threats to a network, we have to be vigilant to adapt and defend against new and ongoing hazards.”
Mike successfully implemented major projects during his tenure as the Interim IT Manager, as noted by Executive Director (County Librarian) Carey Hartmann, “Mike successfully carried out the migration of our IP addresses and the rebuilding and migration to a new email server. During his interview, Mike clearly showed us the depth of his knowledge, vision for the division, project management skills, and desire to learn and grow as a new supervisor.” She continued, “Mike’s years of experience with the library’s specific infrastructure, his problem-solving skills, and desire for the IT team to be the best it can be means the organization will see a smooth and successful transition of leadership.”
Mike is an expert IT professional who understands and values the role of libraries, making him an invaluable asset to the organization. “I love our library; I’ve always been passionate about libraries and reading, but our organization also has so much more. The employees are incredible and everyone works their best to help patrons and to find new and innovative ways to meet the needs of Laramie County.”
Mike is dedicated to helping lead the library in its commitment to provide the community with access to technology, and is poised to assist the library in its mission to “be a hub for engagement, literacy and learning, and lifelong curiosity and discovery.” Laramie County Library System would like to congratulate Mike on his new role and looks forward to the positive impact he will make on the library and the community.
